Afghanistan

The British army suffered their highest casualties whilst fighting in the Sangin district of Helmand Province in Afghanistan before leaving after four years in September 2010 to make way for U.S. forces. Almost one third of all British casualties in the war in Afghanistan have been in Sangin. Strategically well placed, Sangin is notorious as one of the central locations of the opium trade in the south of Afghanistan.
